My name is Ryan Pollock. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but since July 2002 I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love this place!

Work

I'm currently a product manager for JotSpot, one of the coolest startups in the valley. I'm responsible for customer acquisition through internet marketing. Make sure to check out JotSpot's wiki hosting.

Prior to JotSpot, I spent a year doing SEM and SEO for Nextag, and before that I spent more than two years engineering software for Oracle. At Oracle, I developed an XML Editing Framework and visual editors for Oracle JDeveloper.

The primary reason that I currently live in San Francisco and do the things I do is that Oracle found me while I was a student at Cornell University. In May 2002 I graduated with a BS in Computer Science and a concentration in Economics. In June 1999 I graduated from Solon High School.

Fun

My idea of fun largely centers around these areas:

• Music - My favorites are Oasis, Counting Crows, Coldplay, Weezer, Train, etc. But I listen to a crazy amount of music.
• Guitar - I'm not all that great, but I've been known to rock out at bonfires on occasion. I like to cover my favorite bands.
• Football - I've been a diehard 49ers fan since 1988. Yes, I lived in Cleveland then. I was an impressionable kid, and how could I not be allured by the winning ways of Joe Montana? It is a shame that the 49ers suck now, but there's always hope.
• Baseball - I am from Cleveland, so Go Tribe!
• Books - Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby, The Old Man and the Sea, America (The Book), The Tipping Point
• Movies - Forrest Gump, Field of Dreams, There's Something About Mary, The Matrix, American Pie
• TV - Seinfeld, Scrubs, The Daily Show, Carnivale, The Sopranos, Chappelle's Show
• Girls - This blog is going to remain PG-13. I have no stories to share involving girls. But when they don't make you crazy, girls are fun.
